Discovering the landscape

Timanfaya, the volcanic essence of Lanzarote

Lanzarote, an island of spectacular scenery, is dominated by the imposing presence of Timanfaya, a unique national park. Nicknamed the "Mountains of Fire", this is one of the island's most emblematic sites, offering a fascinating journey into the heart of volcanic activity.

Timanfaya is not only an impressive geological site, but also a living testimony to the power of nature.

A sculpted landscape
by fire

Timanfaya National Park covers over 50 km² and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its formation dates back to the major volcanic eruption of 1730, which changed the face of Lanzarote forever.

For six years, the earth was disfigured by lava flows, transforming the landscape into a veritable spectacle of black rocks, craters and mountains. Today, this lunar scenery is one of the most spectacular on the planet.

Ongoing volcanic activity

Beneath the surface of Timanfaya, volcanic activity remains very active. The heat from deep-seated magma is used to demonstrate the power of the earth. In the center of the park, visitors can watch impressive demonstrations of geothermal heaters heating water to extreme temperatures in a matter of seconds. These demonstrations are a living testimony to the power hidden beneath our feet.
